[TIP 85] Automatically Identifying Measures & Dimensions

When connecting to your data, Dundas BI automatically tries to identify what would be a measure and what would be a dimension within your different data columns.

In many cases, if your data column is numeric, it should be treated as a measure, however, sometimes you may have a numeric data column such as an ID column that should actually be identified as a dimension and not a measure.

Dundas BI is trying to detect that using prefixes and suffixes within the data column name, so if your column name includes something like ID or Key or Code, etc., it will be classed as a dimension and not a measure.

This list of values to be used for the prefixes and suffixes is configurable under the admin --> setup --> config page, so if your data source includes a different value that would indicate that a certain numeric data column should be a dimension, you are welcome to modify this list and save yourself and your users' time by avoiding the need to adjust the automatic Dundas BI detection of measures and dimensions.
