Tip #144 - Map Control

Map Control

Did you know that there are different projections available for the map control? Maps can be drawn using different coordinate systems which stretch and accentuate various parts of the globe depending on the needs of the viewer.

By default – the map control uses the Equirectangular projection which is common for map visualizations and is even used by GIS. This projection centers on the equator making the areas near the poles distorted and closer.

Try Mercator if you are looking for something different. Mercator is the most common projection used for web mapping and navigation as it makes the areas near the poles easier to see but the areas nearest to the poles end up being a bit more distorted.
