Forever Be Immortalized Within Dundas BI

At Dundas, we love nothing more than showing off our wonderful customers and all they've accomplished. If that means immortalizing them in our product, so be it!


Dundas BI 5 is right around the corner (more details on that to come) and this is your chance to create Styles and Themes and potentially have them included within Dundas BIs default list of themes!

Here's how you can make this happen:


  1. Import the export file into your Dundas BI instance. When doing the import, make sure you also check the “Resource Data” option under the import “Advanced Options” step so the data for this project is imported as well.

  2. Once the import is done, change your active project to the “Theme Challenge” project and open the “Sales Dashboard”.

  3. Now comes the fun part – modify the dashboard styling by creating your own styles to the different visualizations. Once you are done creating styles for the different elements, save all of those styles under a Theme. We recommend trying to apply that Theme to other dashboards in your instance to see what that looks like and adjust accordingly.

  4. Export your dashboard to an image and also create an export file for your theme.

  5. Share your image with the rest of the advocates and us (as a reply in this discussion topic)

  6. Upload both your Theme export file and the dashboard image to Dundas' Sharefile Folder - Make sure both are labeled the same (i.e., Jordan_Zenko_Dundas_BI_Theme)

  7. Dundas will choose the best Theme and add it to Dundas BI 5 as part of the default set of Themes shipped with the product (this is left to Dundas' discretion – we reserve the right to not add any at the end)

  8. Dont forget to "Like" the different submissions to show which ones you like the best!

  9. Each submission will receive 250 points, and the advocate whose submission is added to Dundas BI 5 (at the discretion of Dundas), will receive a bonus 1000 points!

The deadline will coincide with the launch of the Dundas BI 5 Beta Experience (more details on that shortly), so near the end of November!

This is my submission. Theme is based on our Court colors and a split complementary palette.


I exported my Theme to a dbie file but can't seem to attach it here (not in listed file types).


What should I do?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! What we'd like for you to do, is upload both your Image and the Theme export file to Dundas' Sharefile Folder


Make sure both are labeled the same (i.e., Jordan_Zenko_Dundas_BI_Theme)

Warning I have weird tastes, I will get the files uploaded soon. I figure the water on the map should be blue just like when you look at it in real life.

Mabye Ocean and Sand or Beach for a name of the theme?

Thanks so much everyone who’s submitted their themes already! I wanted to share the theme that I’ve created, in hopes to spark some more inspiration.


I used our Dundas colors that you already know from the look of Dundas BI. I also added a couple of icons to make the dashboard more fun. You can find icons like that online. If you want to spice it up even more feel free to add a fun header to the dashboard like the stripes you see on the top right (it's just a simple image that I added).

If I am working on the styling of a dashboard I often use the Adobe Color Wheel that you can find here: https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel

You can start of with one color and the color wheel will show you what other colors will fit. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

The article also includes a PDF with 30 color Palettes that are already balanced out. I often use them either directly on a dashboard or as inspiration for my own palettes :-). I attached the pdf so you can have a look

I do not see any new Themes in the Beta, does that mean no one got chossen?

Hey James,

We've decided to extend the submission deadline until the end of the Dundas BI 5 Beta period. Once that's ended, our team will review all the submissions to determine whether or not any will be included in the next release!

I have a 4% chance with only two submission. any more and I will have a negative chance. LOL

Jordan,

My theme has disappeared from my personal folder and the Global folder in our application. Is there any way you could send me the file I submitted ? I am not even sure I can recreate it again :( and it took so much work! Please help me!
